Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
I am trying to gather price quotes and information on equipment to purchase. There seems to be much debate when it comes to which printer to use for making transfers. I currently have an HP all in one which I think will be ok to use for any scanning I need done. However, I understand that I need an inkjet printer that uses pigment ink. The Epson C88 is mentioned the most on here but there is still debates. I looked into some reviews on the C88 and it is said to be slow but reasonably priced. To start I'm sure I could deal with the speed issues but I also noticed that this printer was released in 2005 so I was wondering if a newer model is out. Any input would help.
Hello
I use the c88+. Works great. The others were to costly for me especially since I was doing this for the first time and didn't have the money to buy expensive equipment to start out with.
There is a new epson c120 out that uses the pigment ink also. Looks kinda like the c88+. And is like 79-89 dollars.
If worried about the c88+ you could get a couple of them and have one in backup. Thats what I eventually did.
You can get bulk ink and CIS for the 88 also.
I have a CIS but haven't bought the bulk ink yet. Been researching them and think I am going to go with the MIS HT inks. That has been the harder decision for me, which Heat transfer ink to go with.

The C88 is now the c88+. The difference is speed. it is now much faster.
I think the c120 is the newest model. Probably replacing the c88+ Here are the specs.

Black text up to 37 ppm, 20 ppm color
Laser quality black text at 25 ppm and vivid color images at 11 ppm
Dual Black ink to print twice as much
One standard ink set for all your printing needs
Individual ink cartridges
Smudge and highlighter resistant prints
Unbeatable fade resistance
Now, you can own the world’s fastest document ink jet printer — the perfect choice for all your home and business projects. The Epson C120 delivers laser quality black text up to two times faster than competitive printers¹. Excellent for small offices or schools, where speed and volume printing are needed, the C120 even includes dual Black ink cartridges, so you can print twice as much, twice as fast¹.
Best of all, you don’t have to sacrifice quality. This revolutionary printer delivers truly amazing text and client-ready color brochures, whether you use plain or photo paper. I think the c120 is the newest model. Probably replacing the c88+
That's what I was told when I bought mine. I'm still looking for a bulk system that is available for this model however so if anyone knows where I can find one it would be appreciated.
You could look into the Kodak EasyShare All-in-One Inkjet Printers. They use pigment inks. And the ink is inexpensive... $9.99 for a black cartridge and $14.99 for a color cartridge. Info about them here KODAK EASYSHARE All-in-One Printers - multifunction inkjet printers

I don't think so. No where on their site does it say they use pigment inks. can you show where it says they use pigment ink because I can't find it.
I clicked on the color cartridge in that link, and this is what it said: Save up to 50% on everything you print compared to similar consumer inkjet printers* with Kodak’s pigmented inks that produce photos that last a lifetime.**
I just bought a C88+ new in unopened box in Craigslist $40 plus a 30 pack of glossy paper free.
Needless to say cartridges weren't even installed.
Check in Craigslist, sometimes you can get good deals. Buying locally you avoid shipping charges.
