Default Trying to do 2 transfers on a shirt

Hey guys - hoping you can give me a little advice before I ruin a good shirt:

A friend wanted a custom design on a shirt -- A Top 10 List of Why She LOVES Pregnancy (Sarcasm). Anyway, I usually only do children's shirts and only have a 9 x 12 press (I know -- I was warned it would be too small, and you all were right -- but I don't ordinarily do adult shirts). I am going to break the design into the 3 lines of Title (measuring 4 x 11), and on another transfer, the top 10 list and a bottom title (measuring 8.5 x 11). I figured she needed the design to be big, since she will be big when she's 9 months prego! Since my press is too small, I cannot press both pieces at one time. Which would you advise I do first? The title b/c it's smaller and to get the correct placement? When I press the 8.5 x 11 sheet after it (below the title), do I need to put parchment paper on top of the title 4 x 11 sheet to protect it? Since the press is so small, the first design area should be hanging out of the press anyway...

Thought of outsourcing it, just not to have to deal with it, but don't have the time, and don't know of any local printers that might be able to do it for me, especially since I really need to get it to her tomorrow.

Suggestions?

Melissa

I would press the top section and let if hang off the press before pressing the bottom section – just like you suggested. You might have a little more space between those two sections than the example you've shown, but I don't think that's a bad thing.

Well, just wanted to report back that I did NOT ruin the shirt! It came out fabulous! One transfer was just the titles (Top Ten Reasons Why / I'm Pregnant/ & Loving It) and was approx. 4 x 11 in size. The second transfer was the top ten list and the bottom title.) I pressed the titles (4 x 11 transfer), peeled and everything was great. Then, I was really nervous about doing the "top ten" 8.5 x 11 page underneath it, but I folded the top of the shirt containing the title transfer, just so that there was enough space for it to slightly hang off the press (just the thickness of the silicone bottom platen), and then pressed the 8.5 x 11 transfer below it. There's maybe a space of 1/4" between the transfers. Once the shirt is washed, I'm sure you won't be able to tell where one stops and the other begins. The image is crisp, clean, colorful (thanks to durabrite ink and my new Epson C88+!), and because it's a sheet and a half of 8.5 x 11 landscape, it's a nice big image. It was a little difficult since it was an adult XL, and I was doing it on a 9 x 12 press, but it worked!

Now I'm just curious to see how the Everlast paper and the new durabrite ink will wash...

Thanks for checking out my post, everyone! I guess sometimes you just have to try it out and see what happens for yourself!

I'll take a pic tomorrow, and try to post...

Melissa
