Default Preparation of T Shirts

I was wondering whether you wash your shirts before applying the transfers especially the 100% cotton shirts in case of shrinkage.

Also, when placing the shirts on the heat press, do most of you use some method to assure the shirts are lined up properly?

Thanking you in advance, Cheryle.

I don't wash my shirts and have never heard of anyone doing that.......... but i suppose you could.

when i put my shirt on my press I usually stretch them over the press. (if that makes sense?) I think most people lay the shirt on the press right side up , but I do mine upside down, I find it easier.

There's also a great little tool that one of the members on the forum here makes.

And that would be me. Thanks for the plug. As for the washing. You don't prepare your shirts. The idea of a pre-press is to get the moisture out of the shirt so the transfers will stick. if you selling you shirts definitely don't wash the shirts. If the shirt is for you well I guess you will be washing it after you wear it. Lou

Thanks Lou, I just purchased your Tee Square It Tool. Once again, thanks for all your videos you have out there. I can't tell you how helpful they have been, especially to someone just starting out. Cheryle

I just eyeball mine, but I've been a carpenter for 20 years so I can do that. Some can't. I just head for the machine with the shirt and line the middle of the collar with the middle of the machine and then use my fingers to make sure the bottom of the shirt lines up. Hope that's clear as mud.

I just had to do something. I thought I was great at eyeballing myself until my clients called me. Really upset the wife as I had to redo some of the stuff which I felt obligated to do. That's no way to make money. The old eyes and trifocals just don't do it anymore.

No problem Lou, I consider you a mentor. I even took your suggestion and ordered my transfer paper from New Milford. Thanks again for all your help.
