Default inks and presses

I am a little confused.... ok so if I am going to use my ink jet printer I have to get new ink?? and is this ink available for any printer or just the epson?? I currently have a dell and an HP.

Ok.... so say i decide to buy a laser primter do i still need special ink?? Also would the difference between laser and inkjet outweigh price?? Quality?? I am just starting up a baby t-shirt business.

Now for presses...... I am looking at a Geo Knight Jet Press 9" x 12" $345
what are your thoughts on this press?? to small? Also looking at the Hix press Hix Heat Transfer Presses - HL912 Hobby Lite Shirt and Novelty Press
What are your thought on this one?? I am just starting out so I thought small would be ok. What would my advantages be to getting a bigger press?

There is also this press on ebay... what are you opinions of this press
eBay.ca: 15 X 15 Heat Press Transfer machine T shirt 3Y warranty (item 150173480606 end time 23-Oct-07 20:52:40 EDT)

I am from Ontario so I can only find a couple places to get presses.

Ok thank you to everyone who responds... I really appreciate it.

Default Re: inks and presses

whether you need to buy a different ink for your printer depends on the printer. I dont think the HP is conducive to transfer...not sure if there is right ink for ink. The Dell, I dont know. with ink jet you need a pigment ink such as you find in the EpsonC88+ (less that $80 USD) and will print 8.5x11 and will work fine with the 9x12 press you mention. That is a bit on the small side, but I started with same size and still have it some 7 years later. As long as you only do letter size it is fine. Going bigger is not much of an advantange if you can't print larger such as using an Epson 1280 (no longer in production) Not sure about the Epson 1800..about the ink but I think it is pigment...the Epson 1400 that replaces the 1280 does not use pigment ink but using claria ink..good for photos...not so good for transfer.
If you get a laser that are some pretty good ones out there ...I prefer the Okidata series and there are two transfer papers that you run through the laser with regular OEM toner..but only for white/ash..there are not any good transfers for opaque that I have found that meets my standards

as for the press you see on ebay...run for the nearest door....it is chinese and does not have an enforceable warranty..unless you want to fly to china... I would stay away from those...do a forum search, there is a lot of info on this type machine
