Bought new heat press, problem with magictouch-paper
Hello!
A few days ago, my old HIX heat press died. With this one, the magictouch-paper worked just fine! Then, I ordered a new heat press called Blackline BL-1000. You can see a picture of it here : http://profila.no/brosjyrer/BL-1000_brosjyre.pdf . However, with this new heat press I can't figure out how to use the magictouch-paper.. The heat and time is set to the exact same as the old press, but it fails every time.. Have tried different settings, but no luck! The problem is that not all of the image is transfered to the shirt, some of it peels off. I'm printing on a OKI C5600 - same printer that printed the other. The paper is Magic Touch TTC 3.1+.
I also use a Roland SP-300V, and a GX-24 - and I can press the transfers made on both machines.
Re: Bought new heat press, problem with magictouch-paper
If the image that does not print right is in the same place each time you press, it would seem there may be cold spots in the press. that is uneven temperature. I do not know the press you have, but it looks like a chinese model.. you might do testing to make sure the heat is even on the press regardless of the press, to get good transfers with any paper you need the right combination of pressure, temperature and time. So with this new press if it is working correctly, you need to experiment with the pressure or the time
Re: Bought new heat press, problem with magictouch-paper
I've tried pressing the image on different places in the heat press, but without any result. Also, I've pre-pressed the garment to eliminate moisture. So - it all boils down to pressure and time? Guess I'll just have to experiment some more then.. Thanks for your help!
Re: Bought new heat press, problem with magictouch-paper
Try these steps and let me know if they work:
(1)Press at 395-400 degrees for 10-15 seconds
(2)Peel warm (wait 5-10 seconds and then peel)
I had a similar problem. One of my presses would transfer well at 375 for 10 seconds and hot peeled. My other press required the above steps. I use TTC 3.3 in my 5500.

I have been using my heat press for Light and Dark Magic touch transfer paper at around 190 degrees, is this too low? as my transfers have been peeing off the t-shirts after only a few washes.

190 degrees???? Way too low for transfer paper. Do you mean Celsius. In degrees I would more in to increasing to 350 degrees. Lou

I had a strange thing happen today as I was pressing some rhinestone transfers on hoodies. I don't know if it's because of the thickness of the hoodie, or maybe something is wrong with my pressure setting.
I clamped the press down for my 12 seconds, and when time was up, I couldn't open the press. I thought I'd really cooked the shirt, but the teflon sheet protected it. I had to run get kitechen hotpads to open the press. Very scary! My press is a very basic one, and the only pressure setting I have is a bolt that I tighten or loosen. Has this happened to anyone else? Sandy
Re: Bought new heat press, problem with magictouch-paper
I put a perm marker on the screw threads for t-shirts, and loosed it a lil untill it is easier to close around the hoodie, but not pull out and then mark that line with a perm marker as well right on the screw threads,, this way , i know when done with hoodies, where i have to go back to for tees,,

Re: Bought new heat press, problem with magictouch-paper
Thanks everyone. I will do the magic marker trick on the screw/bolt thing. I can't remember the brand name of the press. Had it for several years but have used it little until the last few months. It's purple.lol I'll look and get back to you. It's not a fancy one, no digital readouts or anything.Sandy
