I think you have only one choice with laser..that is Oki C8800 ..around 2400 or so. For inkjet there is the Epson 1800 and 1400.. 1400 DOES NOT use pigment ink..
We use an HP Laser, Its postscript, don't have the model handy but it works for us. We print our positives on 11 X 17 Velum that a local paper company cuts to size. No problems with halftones in the 40 range. Good printer.
