Default Newbie Needs Help...Please Assist!!!

Hey everyone,

Im new to this whole process and let me just start out by saying you people are AWESOME. I cant believe the into that is out there.

I have watched a few videos and looked around but I can't get the information that I need so Im turning to you helpful people out there.

I have been trying to make some tshirts for a while now and recently went out , bought some t-shirts and cheap transfer sheets from a business depot.

I am wondering what kind of paper I need to get if I want too tranfer JUST the ink and not all of the background glossy stuff. Like If I print a happy face with no colour I want just the outline of the happy face to be printed onto the shirt and have the rest of it just be fabric.

Is this possible to do with paper that be printed on with a home printer.

Please help I don't know what paper I need.

From what Ive seen I want 'heat split' paper or something like that...is that what this 'iron all' is?

Again I would appreciate any help I can get.

Thanks,
DrewTrent

Ideally, outsourced plastisol transfers.

With an inkjet printer, no, with a laser printer, yes.

Hot split just means the paper is peeled while the transfer is hot. It's a common type of plastisol transfer, so the term is often seen there.

Imageclip and papers like it do I believe, but it's not my area; you'd need to do a forum search to find out more than that.

ImageClip is a laser paper and works very well. I know it is sold in the US. Not sure about other countries. I believe there is another similar paper sold in the UK. There is a no-trim inkjet paper, but it is not really available yet. Evidently the US distributor is trying to set up dealers and will not sell in small quantities.

If you just want an image on the shirt with no carrier paper, trimming, border etc and printing at home. There is only one method and that is dye sublimation. All other home printing transfers use some type of paper, carrier that the ink prints on and is applied directly to the shirt. These are the home methods available to a printer for apparel decoration. You can design and outsource for plastisol transfers and only the image will transfer. You can go the DTG method and print directly on the shirt. You can use heatpress vinyl limited to around 3 colors cut on a plotter and heat press onto shirts.

Sublimation is the nuts...for sure, but ImageClip only transfers the printed image with a very soft hand. No clear polymer window/border. Still nothing like sublimation though. My transfer:sublimation sales are about 1:1 when I do shows where people can feel the two side by side.

How would I go about getting some of this paper from the distributer? And how much are we talking as being a small order like 100 if so thats fine.

You can either request for sample of Imageclip from Coastal Business Supplies or purchase a small quantity of 50 sheets for $38.00 plus shipping . Here is the link: ImageClip Heat Transfer Paper 8 1/2" x 11" (50 sheets) Click for Discounts *SPECIAL* - 11-imageclip

South East Specialty I believe has the lowest price in large quantity plus $5.95 shipping of orders $100.00 - $199.00 and free shipping for orders of $200.00 +

The vendor also sells in small quantity as small as 25 sheets for $21.25 plus shipping.

Here is the link:Transfer paper, heat transfer paper, inkjet transfer paper, t shirt transfer paper

I suggest that you start small just to try first. It is a bit tricky to apply. Other than that the transfer paper is superb.

IronAll (and others like it) come in both a light garment version and a NEW dark (opaque) shirt version.

The IronAll for lights leaves very little residue behind, especially if you can trim closely to the design, stretches, and has a soft feel compared to "standard" heat transfer papers. The new IronAll for darks has a softer feel than other opaque transfers and stretches which mimimizes cracking that you typically find with other opaque transfers. Seatch for IronAll and you will find alot of discussions about it and others like it.

I would not recommend using paper from Office Depot or other office supply stores.

Plastisol, as mentioned, leaves no residue behind but needs to be ordered from suppliers that make thest type of transfers and have a minimum quantity (usually 8 to 15 sheets) that you must buy and requires about 1 week before you get your designs.

Hope that helps...

That is the beauty of Imageclip it does not have to be trimmed. It is self weeding. Therefore it can be used on variety of light color shirt without worrying about polymer patch/box/window (however it is called) showing around the design.

Yes Imageclip is a photo-trans product line which is manufactured by Neenah Technical Products solutions - Photo-Trans® ImageClip™ - Neenah Paper Inc..

The product lived up to the claim in that page. I know I use it. JMO.
