Hello everyone!
I am somewhat of a newbie at heat transfers, although I've done about 50 shirts to date. I just didn't have the proper equipment (used an HP photosmart that has dye inks which have run, transfers from a company that chipped an cracked after the first wash, and burned the heck out of my wrists using a clothing press without specific temperature markings). Now I bought:
- swing-away Knight JP12 - only 9 x 12, but good for children's clothing, and small scale production (no more extreme heat in my face when positioning shirts, and no more burned wrists! YAY!)
- Everlast transfers (hopefully will solve the chipping and cracking problem)
- Epson C88+ (bought on Amazon for $79.99) - to get pigment inks which will not run or bleed in the wash and has the possibility for conversion to CIS ink system
- May also be purchasing refillable cartridges to cost down on ink costs ($60 as opposed to a full-blown CIS system for $200) and possibly to have sub ink in?
OK, here's my question... can I use the Epson pigment cartridges to do heat transfers, and then switch to the refillable cartridges filled with sublimation inks when I want to do a different project? I was thinking that maybe I can run a test page in between to clear one ink from the printer, while the other loads up...
I like the idea of no hand/cracking with sublimation, and the many different kinds of substrates possible with sublimation, but don't want to do that SOLELY, because then I'll have to spend $6 per SoftLink shirt if I have a t-shirt order...
Your thoughts PLEASE?!?
Thanks!
Melissa
