Default Knight 16x20 swinger

I just got this press and I love it, but it has a feature that I can't figure out...even with directions. It has a height/pressure sensor and so far the only way I can get the sensor to display anything is by moving the plunger by hand. When it does display, I don't know what the numbers are supposed to mean. Can someone enlighten me? The directions say it is factory calibrated...whatever that means.

PS...The temp is spot on. 400 on the readout...401 on the laser thermometer.

i've had - and loved! - my DK20S for a number of years! to the best of my knowledge it does not have a pressure sensor in the typical sense of the word - if you crank the knob quickly one direction or the other, it'll show you Pr# and with experience (assuming you either write it down or remember it ) you'll know that Pr5 (or whatever) is good for certain stuff and Pr3 is for other stuff. you still have to twist the knob to get from Pr3 to Pr5 or whatever........so i've never dealt with it. over time, i've just kind of learned what 'feels' like heavy, medium or light pressure when i clamp it down. i do a lot of different substrates - not just shirts - so it varies a LOT from item to item.

That answers one of my questions, but I have another question about the Knight 16x20 swinger. Is it normal for the temperature to drop while pressing? Mine drops around 5-10 degrees every time and once dropped 20. I have to set it at 405 to maintain close to 400. While the press is open the temp stays where it should, but when closed it starts dropping immediately.

yep, it's normal! just like a pot of water stops boiling for a minute when you drop pasta into it.....when you introduce something that is at a lower temperature than the press, it's gonna cool it off til the thermostat kicks in and heats it back up again. and many times mine will heat beyond the set temp as well - i just kind of keep an eye on it and if it's what i feel is too far off either direction i'll stand upright and stretch my back for a few seconds or grab my coffee cup and sneak a sip

Thanks Jan! That's pretty much what I've been doing. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything wrong with my brand new press.
