I just bought an Okidata C8800 laser for heat transfer. From the extensive research I did, I felt that laser was a better option. I'm still waiting for laser paper to arrive, but the color quality on the C8800 is about as close to an actual photograph as I've ever seen from a printer.
I had a 1280 a few years ago that I used for printing photos and graphics and the C8800 blows it away. I can't compare the two for printing transfers because I didn't use the 1280 in that capacity and I just got the 8800.
If you want to do sublimation, look at the Epson R1400, which is replacing the 1280. Heat transfer and sublimation are two different processes, but something like the R1400 will do both by changing ink.
I am new to this and kind confused about heat transfer and sublimation. I bought a heat press transfer machine and some transfer paper for light and dark thirts, also some inks(I don't know what kind, they told me to use CISS on Epson R200 or R220, is that pigment or sublimation???) So what kind printer and ink do I need to use? And I just figuered out 1280 needs to use dye based ink, is that means I can't use head transfer ink at all?

You need pigment based in for heat transfers.
Dye sub is for polyester t-shirts (white or light colors) and uses a special ink and special transfer paper. The ink gets embedded in the fabric.
Heat transfers are ink on top of paper and when you press them, the ink sits on top of the garment. Heat transfers can be done on 100% cotton and polyester blends. There is heat transfer paper for light garments and heat transfer paper for dark garments (called opaque transfers)
