Default Questions about laser vs. ink jet for softhand results

OK.

I have a wonderful xerox 7700 laser printer, CS3 and all the bells and whistles a person could want. Also just purchased a Hix Swingman 16 x 20 press.

I printed on Techni print paper on white all cotton Hanes shirt with all kinds of variables of 1.) heat, 2.) pressure 3.) time and no matter what.... got lousy results meaning the backing and feel are not of the quality I'd like.

I know I want the Soft Hand feel. My thought was to purchase an inkjet printer and try some of the Ironall or other type papers that seem to do a better job... (soft hand).

Question: If this is the right strategy...

1.) What inkjet printed do you recommend?
2.) What Paper do you recommend?
3.) Should I be considering different shirts? (currently all cotton beefy Ts)
4.) What else should I consider to end up with a "best-of-breed" quality feel considering I'm only printing on white shirts in very small qty (5-15) shirts at a time... Thanks in advance for all your help. This is fantastic forum for the less experienced!!!

My best advice to you is to ask Lou. He knows more about that than anyone else here. If you can give it a few days, he'll more than likely post to this one.

Now, I'm no Expert here, but I use the Techni Print paper almost exclusively with my Konica-Minolta Magicolor 2300 Laser and have had great results. If you trim it right before pressing, you get a great looking and decent FEELING print.

I notice you're using all cotton tees? I believe the paper is made for 50/50 Poly/Cotton tees. I use JERZEES 50/50 5.6oz tees almost exclusively. I press at 400 Degrees for 20 seconds and peel immediately with very satisfactory results.

To add to that, laser transfers are generally more durable than inkjet transfers. Inkjet transfers tends to crack earlier.
