Default Heat Transfers - do I need special pigment inks?

To do heat transfers do I need to use special pigment inks. Or can I use the stock epson inks?

It depends on your machine. I have a c88+ & a CX4200. They both use stock Durabrite pigment inks. Not all Epson inks are pigment. It depends on which machine you use and whether it's stock inks are pigment.

The RX580 looks like it uses dye based inks. I've never used dye based inks for transfers, but the overall opionon is that they are bad. In fact look at this thread - Epson water test with pigment and dye inks.

There are some cheap pigment based ones. Anything that uses the "DuraBrite" or "UltraChrome".

Thanks for the help. Can I put pigment inks into the rx580 and is there a continuous ink system for it?

The only way to put pigment inks, would be with a CIS unit. I haven't used this place - Inkjetfly.com - Professional Choice of Ink Supply for Inkjet Printers Epson RX580 - but there was someone on the forum that did and liked it and the prices seem reasonable. Most places only carry CIS units for the C88 and the 1280, as they seem better built for it. You could try and search to see if there are other places.
