Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
It's not exactly like parchemnt paper, but you are correct in that it has a teflon coating. One of the things it can do is protect your press from getting any transfer ink, plastisol ink, etc on it. Some applications call for it as well.

I'm not sure. I've heard of a craft paper that people use, not sure what it is made of. I've also used opaque transfers that come with a parchment like paper. So it may be possible. Withe my regular transfers, I've never used a teflon, and I haven't had any problems.

I've been using parchment paper when I do mousepads. It works really well since I can throw it away after it get dirty.I also have a teflon sheet for tshirts. It works the same way.Hope this helps.Allie
An alternative to buying teflon sheets at the silly prices shops ask is getting an ironing board cover and making your own size sheets or platon covers.
Actually, I use uncoated white butcher paper instead of the teflon. I was told, rightly or wrongly that moisture can pass through that whereas it can't through the teflon. I know conde' even recommends using it. I buy it in biiiiiiiiig rolls from my sam's club. I do use teflon sheets in some instances, but for general printing, the paper works fine.
It also depends on what you're pressing. We tried Kraft paper on Thermacut (plastisol sheet that you cut with a plotter) and it melted to the paper. The same happened with an opaque inkjet transfer.
I have a stupid question but I feel the need to ask it anyhow.
What IS a teflon sheet? Is it basically a sheet of paper with a teflon coating, similar to parchment paper used in baking?
And could I use parchment paper as a short term solution for my heat pressing until my teflon arrives?
told ya it was a stupid question.
I see a lot of people answered your question, I want to respond to your comment. Their are no stupid questions. If you need a answer please ask. The only stupid questions are the ones never asked. ........JB
