Default Dark prints on ironall type paper.

I am having trouble with printing my transfers. Up until now I've been using an Epson CX6600 with durabrite inks and haven't had any problems printing my images, they come out great, until pressing (some color shifting). I have since purchased an Epson 1280 with refillable spongeless cartridges and a well known brand of heat transfer inks. I have noticed that the prints are very dark. I had thought that I initially may have messed up with priming/filling the cartridges but using a new set didn't change anything. I've played around with the settings in the control panel (upped/lowered saturation, upped/lowered different colors, changed brightness - produced a washed out look, and some other things) Anyone else have the same problems? Is this something I just have to live with going from a RGB representation on my monitor to a CMYK printer? Also, I've printed a purge image to make sure I have the proper colors there and they all seem dark also. The image I'm printing contains a deer on grass with a forest and some foliage behind it with some text on top.

Do you have any photos you can upload to show the problem you're having?

hi Mark,
What kind of ink do you use?try to put the original cartridges back and print if it came in normal color then your OEM ink is the fault. I used heat transfer ink form coastal no problem.

I am using Coastal inks, but I don't want to assume that the inks are at fault as I've only heard great things about their inks. I've tried putting back in the OEM inks, and even was on the phone with Epson for a while. The outcome of that was a really nice(near perfect) print of my image on the sample premium glossy photo paper with the Epson inks, the Epson tech concluded that the problem was with the paper I am using, i.e. they don't support printing with inks and paper not certified by them.

Ok, here are some examples...

The above picture shows the picture i'm trying to print printed on my cx6600 with durabrite inks and the others are with the heatpress inks. the top purge print is the durabrite inks and the bottom are the heatpress inks.

This shows a larger photo of the OEM ink purge print (on bottom) and the heatpress inks on top, it's hard to see accurately but the top cyan and magenta are much darker. the right set is again the durabrite print in center and the outer is the heatpress inks (hint: look at the text, leaves and deer to see the darkness). Below is the original picture.

Thanks guys!!!

What Is Your Setting When You Use Heat Transfer Ink, Mine I Use Normal Setting No Adjustment. The Design Are Nice Just A Little Change In Contrast.

When I use normal setting (Plain Paper), no color adjustments, the prints almost come out foggy/grey. The Psalm 42:1 looks dark green instead of the light yellow/green.

did you try searching for hp photosmart in the forums? I do not know if they are compatable. the biggest thing is if it's dye or pigment ink. for heat transfers you should use pigment (if I remember correctly)
