Exclamation Phoenix Phire...uneven heating?

Hi, I just bought a Phoenix Phire press and it's pretty sweet!
I just had a couple questions/concerns for those with more experience...

My unit has a 10 degree difference from the center to the edges of the heating plate....is this normal?
It just seems kinda backwards...I would expect the edges to be cooler.

I'll have to turn up the temp 10 degrees hotter than recommended to be sure I'm getting the optimal temp for the transfer.

Also, on HIGH...my raytemp gun is showing the heating element at 485 degrees...
while the digital temp on the unit shows 426 degrees...and the press is only supposed to do 430!?!?!

Is this type of stuff all par for the course...or is there a problem here?

Thanks!

Default Re: Phoenix Phire...uneven heating?

It seems that HIX Corporation is known to have the most even heating plate.

I also stumbled on a thread here that mentioned this discrepancy with hot/cool spots on heat presses...it's common.

Although, my press running at 55 degrees ABOVE the temperature gauge is still a bit of a concern/fire hazard/potential law suit when it burns down my house.

So that's all there to it I suppose...nothings perfect.
