Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
Have a quick question more of a need of approval. I read through countless posts here on the forums. I have my mind set on a Mighty press 16 X 20. Just wanted to know if this is a good investment.
this is my main question. what are some things I should purchase with the press such as things to help protect it, storage, etc. I ask this as im still half way there and the other half will be a loan, so should have th funds soon and want to have the definate answer so when i get the funds i will be ready to order right away. Thanks for any responses.
I am thinking about getting the Mighty Press too. I am not sure what size though. I am going to be doing t-shirts 1xlt - 5xlt so I don't know if I need the 16x20 or if a smaller one will work.
About the only thing I could suggest as an extra is teflon sheet... I sometimes use 2...one on the lower platen to protect it and the other..as required over the transfer or garmet
If you want to have accurate placement with your transfers than you should get a alignment tool. The www.tsquareit.com is a great tool. The forums own Badalou invented this great product. The teflon sheets, pillows ,covers are also very important too. Good luck and congrats on the new equipment. ....JB
I have a 15 x 15 Mighty Press that has been a workhorse for about five years now. All my transfers fit within that dimension, so it works for me. I press shirts from 2T to 5X, plus totes, sweatshirts, aprons, mousepads and chairbacks!
The fitted teflon pad is a good investment. I didn't use one the first year and the bottom rubber got a little rough around the edges from pulling garments on and off. Agree with everyone else, the teflon sheets are super (I have two sizes and recently added the pillows.)
I do throw a sheet over the press overnight when I am working an outdoor show or when I leave it set for awhile (after cooldown) ... keeps dust and cat off (she thinks it is a great place to sleep).
my heat press area is stocked with a lint brush, a t-square, 4 asst. teflon pillows and a bottle of aloe! no matter how careful you are you will get burned sometime. i also highly recommend the fitted teflon pad for the bottom platen.
a problem i've had with the teflon sheets is that if they get a serious crease in them it transfers onto my decoration when pressed. for that reason i use the craft/parchment paper instead. it doesn't last as long but it's much cheaper (disposable).
Well I had an electrical fault with my first press and it blew up the electrics in my house, cost me a fortune to fix....so I'd buy one of those electrical extension cords with an automatic cut-out if I were you.
