the transfers used make the difference more than the press.

a press is a press really.

BUT,

If you are serious and can afford it, go with a name brand. Cheap/$ goods come and go and so do their suppliers. BUY it local if possible, help your community grow and contribute to the enviroment rescue.

thats what i tink.

I agree buy a name brand. The after the sale service will be worth the extra dollars spent. I know you get what you pay for.I bought the cheap press and then had to buy a name brand press to replace it. I will never bargin shop for equipment again. I will buy what I need and pay the price. ...Good luck.... JB

I have a hotronix auto-open and a china brand press. The main diffrence is in the workmanship. The named brands from the USA will surely lasts longer.

As noted...a Cheap Press without good support will soon be a door stop. If one is serious about the business...cutting cost on equipment will ultimately cost you. Name brands of heat presses are available for under 1k and will do just fine

Don't know who makes 'em but here is a link to eBay...buy now...a press for $289 and $389.. BUT with a $99 plus shipping... Not one I would buy I don't think.

I think the support and warranty offered by name brand presses is something to consider.

Also the reliability that comes with a name brand press that you can read about over and over in these forums.

I think it's *possible* to do OK with a lower cost press, but it's less of a gamble to go with a name brand press when you know the quality is there.

I don't think you *need* a $2000 press right off the bat. There are several name brand presses that you can get (even used) for less than $1000.

5 Tips: How to select which heat press to buy?

With some lower cost presses the heat is not always even. Also, the clam closes like a hinge all the way down. I have a Hotronix magnetic clam and the hinge part stops about 1 inch before the platen then it it vertical from there down...nice, keeping the pressure dead even. The temperature is also measured in many spots on the platen.

With a lot of things, I believe you generally get what you pay for.

Cheers,
Greg
