Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
I currently have a Epson 1280 and C82 to print my transfer but I notice after I print a few pages the pages start to fade which means I have to stop and clean the heads AGAIN. What is a good laser printer for printing transfers? Also, I heard from someone at ProWorld that I should use their paper with a HP printer? Anyone have any ideas on a HP printer? Thanks for any help.
BTW, I have a customer that wants 8 dozen transfers made and I don't want to get stuck with cleaning heads through out the whole process....
I've heard good things about the okidata laser printers.
For 96 transfers I'd use plastisol transfers (or just get them directly screen printed).
I agree. Okidata is the way to go. It is the brand of chocie by a lot of transfer users. High res and prints good photo quality image. There are all kinds of models with rebate at Staples when I checked last night. Another is Konica Minolta but according to Ken at Duracotton it does not work well with their paper because it puts out too much toner. The good part is there are other brand of transfer for laser that are available.

How does the ink hold with a Laser Printer vs. Inkjet? Does it hold up better on a shirt?

I tried to stay away from inkjet printer (clogging issue) so I cannot comment about it. On the other hand I use Imageclip with my laser printer and I get really good and durable print with Okidata/Imageclip combination. I can not speak for other transfer paper since I only tried a few sample of different brands. It is not fair to those products if I made my judgement base on one or two sample prints. IMHO laser printed transfer holds up on its own when it comes to durability. It's advantage over inkjet is no clogging issue of course. I have printed a shirt from day one when I started using imageclip and it has been washed 16 times to date. The printed image looks the same as the day it was pressed. Very little fade.
So to answer your question good wash fastness can not be attributed to just printer toner, it takes the combination of the transfer paper and laser toner.
I use an Okidata 5800 and find it a great machine. I have a KM 2430 that gives me fits with paper jams...even with regular paper and a Brother that I use only on occasion...not often for transfers
i'll second the oki c5800, absolutely brilliant, would recommend over inkjet any day........ you wont go far wrong with an Oki......... Just my 2 pence worth
Are any of the OKI Data laser printers better then the other?
I see Staples has a few on sale this week. C3400n and the C5500n
Ive seen some 5200n for sale on the net too.
I read on ebay there is a reset function mod you can do so the printer will
print longer without having to replace the drum.
I see Samsung CLP-300 is a cheap model they have brought out too.
why is Oki best....for me it just seems to perform better. I have an Epson CLP, a Konica Minolta CLP and the Oki 5800...prints more for less it seems and is certainly a better print whether I use Duracotton or as lnfortun states..using imageclip
I don't see the 5800 listed for toner carts at that price $135 bundle.
I want to be able to buy the carts at a good price, so I want to make sure
I get the right model that they support at the supplu houses.
