Exclamation shopdyesub/inkmizer cartridge (& cust. srvc) problem

I wanted to tell everyone about my experience in trying to get some refillable carts for my Epson 1280 from the people of www.shopdyesub.com/inkmizer.com. Sorry if this is a little verbose, I just want to tell the full story as clearly as possible.

My initial request for information regarding the differences between a CIS system and refillable carts was answered only by stating my choice of printer was somehow wrong. I thought they were maybe having a bad day, but I didn't think much of it.

I ended up ordering 2 sets of refillable carts from them in late June and they arrived relatively quickly after the order was placed.

The instructions were home made and a little awkward at times in the words and pictures. The pictures were a little unclear, but I was thankful to have something to go by.

I went though the steps to fill up my ink cartridge and then came to the "priming" step. It said I was supposed to use a plastic applicator to extract ink through the bottom seal and cart mechanisms. I looked at their photo and couldn't really see what was going on. I checked their website to see if they had extra details, FAQ, etc. All I could see were pictures of the same things I got in my box, so that was what I imagined I had to use.

Here is exactly what I was looking at: http://www.dreamrevolution.org/primingtext.jpg

So, after researching it for some time, I put the syringe into the bottom and tried to extract some ink.... and nothing happened. I tried over and over again and still no ink. I asked my wife to look over the instructions and see if she could find something I couldn't to help make sense of it all. After many experiments, we decided to give up and ask directly for help.

They have no phone listing, so I had to use email. I wrote at the end of June and got no response. I asked if they could help with priming and if my box had all the appropriate parts included.

After continued attempts and still no priming, I wrote to tell them that since I followed the instructions to the best of my ability and no result occured, I had no choice but to assume the product was defective and look to get my money back from them or from my credit card company. This finally got a response.

The exact response was:

>>
You have the newer style 1280 carts. Yours do not need priming. Just fill them and stick them in.
>>

So, immediately I realized I had been sent the wrong instructions with no warning that I shouldn't try to follow them or that I should do something different. Could I have just destroyed the cartridge I just spent so long on? I was very concerned now, so I wrote back about using the cartridge.

>>
If you poked it with a steel pin, then it could be damaged. However, try it anyway.
>>

My message was a little verbose about what might or might not have happened and this didn't really answer it too well. (still no apology for sending the wrong instructions!) My other concern was if I just try it, will this hurt my printer? I know that if ink is leaking out, it surely won't be a good thing!

Plus - if I just destroyed the cartridge - I did so by following their instructions as closely as possible. Nowhere in the instructions or on the site did it say that "maybe you don't need to follow all the instructions". A simple sharpie stroke, post-it, email, etc. would have been all I needed to not follow the instructions to step 4.

So, in response to if I could harm my printer, he just said:

>>
No.
>>

I'd love to believe that, but I felt that if he wasn't going to say he might have something to do with me following the wrong instructions - he surely wouldn't involve himself if I broke my printer...

So, I asked, if I inadvertantly broke your product by following your instructions to the best of my ability, I think you should send me a replacement.

>>
Nowhere in the instructions does it tell you to insert the steel pin into the cartridge.
>>

This is, of course, the same instructions I should somehow have known not to follow completely in the first place.

I fully admit I stuck the pin into the cart (to make it look just like it does in the in the pic in the instructions), but I don't feel fully responsible as even the simplest of messages could have warned me not to follow part of the instructions.

So, I wanted to relay my experiences here for you all to know:

1) shopdyesub.com/inkmizer.com might be sending you the wrong instructions for your purchases with no warning about out-dated info - thus you may be destroying your newly purchased merchandise by following their instructions!

2) they don't feel they have a responsibility to apologize or make amends to customers who get the wrong instructions for their products

I've waited to send this out in the hopes that they would try to make amends in the interim, but no luck. No further response from them at all.

So, there you go - buyer beware!

If any of you know more about the refillable carts - and if I can really use them without damaging my printer, that would be great! I'd still love to use this equipment and honestly, I've never wanted any problems! I'd just like to print some nice transfers and make some clothes!

Smile Inkmizer and Shopdyesub great products

Hello oneneno,
We have purchased many products over the years from both companies and have rarely ever had any problems with their products. The one thing I really like about them is that unlike some companies, their products come with well tested instructions using either CDs or good pictures with the phamplet and if you get hung up you can either call or email. Any time we contacted them we always got right through without having to jump through complicated phone messaging systems. We're very happy with them and will continue shopping with them. If in doubt about them just look at their testimonies link. There are a lot of people that are tickled with them including us.
