Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
I've read the stickies on Plastisol, but I'm still unclear after visiting FMExpressions & Transfer Express. Plastisol transfers seem to be really expensive, it seems that they should only be used for orders in large quantities (100+). If you have a customer who wants only 14 shirts, and you want to give them close to screenprinted quality, Plastisol is not the way to go because the cost of the transfer out weighs the cost of the shirt, right?
Can anyone shed some light on this because things are starting to become frustrating. Starting to feel like I spent a lot of money on heat press that will only yield great quality if I get huge orders. Inkjet transfers can look good but fade and can crack over time. I'm in the testing stages, and my idea was to use plastisol for pretty much everything except for one-offs and customers who need orders like yesterday.
No, one of my designs was 3 colors, but I wasn't given an option as to how many colors on the FM Expressions site, you just upload your picture then you add to cart where you are shown your total for a minimum order of 8. I actually just went ther as I was typing this it seems to not matter how many colors.
There is a lot of time ivolved in the process. Each color has to be printed and then ran throuh the dryer before the next color is added. The process is more complex than I first thought.I took a tour of the Ace Transfer Company operation. I thought the process would have much simpler than it was. There is a lot of steps to the process and each step takes manpower. The cost may seem high, but I'm sure their overhead is too. I always tell people profiit is not a dirt word.If we don't have profit in business we can't exist,. Good luck .......JB

So the answer to my question is, to only use plastisol for large quantities?
