Default Ink problem? or heat?

Hi All Experienced ones,
I am a newbie and heat transfer, using a HP 6210 Home model on stretchy transfer paper. The kind you can iron over with out hurting it. My problem is sometimes it stays on the paper. I think I am leaving the heat on too long??
I wasnt sure of it was from buying cartidges from Cartridge world ( they recycle them at 1/2 cost) Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks
sue
