Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
my plan is to have a website with hundreds of designs but i want to print / create the t-shirt one at a time as needed - ultimately i may only use a design once on a t-shirt..
is this realistic using plastisol transfers or to create and put a design on one t-shirt only should i use another type of technology?
to make these palstisol transfers i understand i need some major equipment
can someone comment on what type of equipment to do EVERYTHING - create design - print it - add it to a t-shirt all from my own home. is this eqipment very expensive??
You can order plastisol transfers and apply them to the shirts as needed. This will allow you to "print" on your customer's requested size and color shirt. This way you only have blank shirts in stock....not a bunch of shirts printed with designs that aren't selling. You will want to order the transfers in volume to keep the price down. Ordering 1-2 at a time will make them too expensive. Use the search feature here to find suppliers for plastisol transfers.
Good luck,
Ken

can i order blank transfer paper and put designs on them as needed or do i have to order the transfers with the designs on them already??
i have read how people are making there own plastisol transfers - do you agree with this? why do some order them from suppliers and others make there own at home??
If you have creen printing equipment you could make your own transfers.I think most people either use inkjet or laser printers to make their own transfers.I think most people outsource their custom plastisol transfers. Good luck. .... JB
I am a screen printer and have all the equipment to print the transfers, but I would still order them from a company with more experience printing the transfers. I wouldn't gamble the quality I want to present on my limited knowledge of printing plastisol transfers. Unless you already have screen printing equipment, just find a source you are comfortable with and pay them to produce the transfers for you. Saves you time and in the end, probably money as well.

If money is no object, you might want to look at DTG printing it's perfect for one off designs

Making only a single design one copy plastisol transfer is very expensive. You can buy commercial designed plastisol transfers.
to make these palstisol transfers i understand i need some major equipment Yes you would need a lot of expensive equipment, see below .

You would need a computer, graphic software, printer, screen press, screens, exposure unit, flash cure unit, conveyor oven, squeegees, scoop coater, ink, emulsion, several different chemicals for cleaning and reclaiming your screens. This is not every thing but it's a good example of what you need. Having said all that, you could buy a Speedball or a PhotoEZ screen printing kit for t-shirts for under $50.00 and print a shirt.
thanx again for answering all my questions
I hope this helps, but what you need to do is do a search on the topics your interested in and you will find a ton of information available.

Swissarmour (?),
If your talking about pre made transfers, you can get them fairly cheap. IF your talking about having your images screen printed on transfers, then that is a different story. At Ace Transfer Company 12 single color transfers will cost you $4.10 ea. 100 single color transfers will cost you $1.10 ea. The more you order, the cheaper they get. This is for an 11" X 11" or 11" X 13" image. The more colors you add, the higher the price gets. This price is for hot peel, light color fabric. If you want them for dark colored fabrics, that would add another color and cost more. Send me your email address and I will send you a page of links where you can check out the prices and compare them. Have a BLESSED day.
awsome thanks alot goys... wow... well with all this i think i can now buy a heat press and instead of goign the laser route, go with the plastisol route for now... can someone compare the two?
mainly i want on demand designs but at a dolalr each its not too bad... is it 100 mixed or has to be 100 of the same to get that price?
this is really great news actually its not too expensive and really all the equipment id need to start is just a heat press so i could definitely afford the 500 dollar hix if im assured that theyre quality and ive heard plastisol is great...
im gonna go ahead and get in touch with those guys, see if i can sneek in a cheaper price for like 50, 100 of the same sounds good and im sure ill sell them, but i dont have upfront money to order 100 dollars worth of each design, ty for this info, the proworld page btw is freaking awsome!!! i stayed up till maybe like 3 am looking at the designs, i think ill go with these guys to begin with they got some pretty awsome designs and above all, allow mixing which is great as im still knowing my market, hey guys another question... where do you all get your screen meshes from?? i as down at hobby loby and no luck maybe xpedx? i wanna get a small quantity 10 maybe 20 feet tops a friend of mine wants me to do some pizza box labeling for him.. ill try to ask this in a better section i think im veering to far offsides but all help is appreciated anyways thanks
