Default Pressure question

How do I determine whether i'm using light/medium/firm pressure with my hotronix press? It doesn't have a digital pressure read out. So far all besides one transfer has come out great. Now I'm testing a flock sample and I don't want to do it wrong. I had to really tighten the pressure screw just to get the press to auto open. There's a half an inch of threads on the top before it bottoms out completely. Did I maybe get a dud press?

I have a Hotronixs 16x20,but it doesn't auto open. I know the hardr the press is to close the more pressure. Good luck. ..... JB

you can do the paper test. Without a garment in the machine, place a piece of regular paper on the corner of the machine and clamp down. If you can pull it out easily, its not enough pressure. If you can't pull it out its too much pressure. If it gives you some resistance, it should be ok. The strength test is a good indicator as well. If it is really hard to clamp down then its too much pressure. You should have to put a little bit of effort to clamp down and it should be ok. Just keep testing different pressure, you'll get it!
