Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
maybe use a cold peel paper, that way you can cover the press platen with coasters, press them all, throw them aside and peel later without worrying about keeping them hot.
how do you do coasters? With a inkjet transfer or dye sub? also if you have a big press it shouldn't take that long! good luck and I would like to learn more about coasters!
What kind of coasters are you doing? The ones made from mouse pad material may be just a little too big to get 4 from an 8 1/2 X 11 sheet if you are doing full bleed designs. If it is just a small design in the middle you shouldn't have a problem. What I do when I have a lot of them to make is use adhesive to hold the transfer onto the coaster so it doesn't move and then press as many as you can fit on your press. The only thing is if you are using inkjet transfer paper that is hot peel you have to be really fast at peeling them or the paper will stick. I have been able to reheat them on occasion. I mostly use dye sub so sticking isn't a problem.
The coasters I have are made from the mouse pad material. but are actually 3.5 x 3.5x .25, even though some places call them 4x4.
If you can print "borderless", you can fit 6 to a sheet of transfer paper. I use Transfer Jet for coasters because it only requires 4 seconds per and they come out really nice. They are hot peel, but I can do about 4 at a time on my 11x15 press and still peel them hot...(ouch ouch!).
Just remember to make your transfers for each coater slightly larger than the actual coaster size ( maybe 3.6x3.6 or so for the ones I mentioned above) so there's not any "white" edges showing. But, if you can make your image with a white border, you got it made and can make them slightly smaller than the coaster size..oh, and remember to mirror-image when you print.
If you can print borderless, you can get 4 to a page - 2 tall 2 wide, with 1/8th inch between the side to side. If you can't print borderless, then, yes, only 3.
I get my coasters from Coastal Biz.
Yes I can print borderless.
I fitted 4 on one 81/2 by 11 paper
the one problem I'm having is the design I got from the customer....has a white block around the picture, and I cannot crop it to take it off so the background is blue..
Any of you guys know how this can be done... I have corel x3 but I dont really know how to use it.
Another way is to make a square in Corel about .15 larger than the coaster and import the photo. Then Poweclip the photo into the square and then edit it if necessary to fill the square with the design while leaving the white box on the outside of the square. Then if you want to you can go to arrange and remove the outline of the square and what you will have left is just the design.
Just out of curiosity, what are you guys charging for coasters (set of 4, 50, 200)? We don't sell hardly any - but we have them priced at 4 for $9.98. I can see charging about $350.00-400.00 for 200 coasters.
In addition, check out this coaster site. I never realized that there were so many options.
