mistakes I've made within an hour of getting my heat press
I just got my heat press a Hotronix 16x16 auto opener. The first thing I should have done was level it. I noticed that it wasn't level when i went to preheat the bottom platen, but rather than level it out i kept going and pressed a shirt. On my first try I had to repress the design because the first try it didn't stick. So i put a little more pressure and it turned out fine. On my second try i again had to repress the design and well.......... look at the picture.

Looks like the 2nd one if from tranfer express. I have not had ONE of their transfers not work for me. Did you make sure the temperature and pressure were accurate for that particular transfer? usually their transfers peel off and are awesome to use without the least bit of trouble.

Hi Derek, it's a good thing that the 3 didn't work for you - it's backwards! That's the nice thing about working with the number 8 - you can't mess that up. Better on practice than on the real thing.
Have fun with the new press - you'll figure it out very quickly.

I just want to add that the secret to a good design is proper placement and the secret to profit is to get the product out quick and correct.I have found a answer to doing this that has saved me time and money.I purchased a teesquareit and this has really helped me. This tool is the best. I suggest anyone using a heat press should invest in one of these. I would buy the large one. I have one for each press. I can't put into words the real and complete value of this tool. Good luck. .... JB

Derek,
First, the press should have been level when you received it unless it received a lot of rough handling in shipping. Below is a good way to set up the pressure for any press.
Lay a dollar bill on each side and the front of the lower platen with about half of it hanging over the edge. Loosen the pressure until you can pull the bills out with it closed. Then tighten the pressure knob 1/4 turn and try to pull them out again. If you can, go through the 1/4 turn, close and try to remove them until you cannot pull them out. This is a good starting place with a t-shirt. For sweat shirts, it may be a little too tight. After you have used your press for a few orders, you will develop a feel for it. Have a BLESSED evening.
