Default Questions about first setup

Hello everyone,

I have designed a series of t-shirts (1 to 2 colors) and was thinking that, instead of paying somebody to print the t-shirts (screenprinting), I would buy the setup to print them by heat transfer, I used to work in a t-shirt shop (heat transfers) like 10 years ago with standard cheap heat transfer paper printed on the laser printer.

I want to do the printing myself cause I have no idea what will be the response to the t-shirts and also it gives me a lot of options if I want to ad more graphics like a small logo on the back etc etc... and with screenprinting, the price gets higher and higher with the more options you ad.

So here are what I need, and was thinking of buying, I would like to know your feedback.

HEAT PRESS MACHINE

I saw this 15 x 15 heat press machine on ebay, is it good enouph to print plastifol? I read that 399 won't be enouph for heating some types of transfers... will it work on plastifol?

TRANSFER PAPER

I want something that is really close to screenprinting, I read that plastifol is pretty good, my designs are 1 to 2 colors. Any suggestions? And I'm from Canada, any plastfol distributors in Canada?

T-SHIRTS

I will be printing on American Apparel T-shirts, anybody had problems with these?

Thx
I'll be waiting for your feedback

Try http://www.spot98.net/, they do custom plastisol transfers in Canada (Toronto) and are an active member of the forum. And yes, plastisol will get you the closest to screen printing.

here's what I am doing (very similar to what you want to do)

mighty press 15x15 ($650 from coastal buisness supply)

gilden ultra cotton from staton wholesale (1.05 a piece/ with tax ID)

transfers - plastisol from first-edition.com (cheapest high quality for small orders)

*keep in mind that you'll probally want a teflon sheet and a laser therm. as well, neither to pricy

The therm. is used to be certain of your platen temp. I do not have a digital read out, so this is extremely helpful for me. Some press run slightly off.

My main question with the heat press from the ebay listing would have to do with the heating element. What is the pattern of the element inside of the top platen? And is there a warranty on the element?

That's the answer I got from the seller... is it good?

There are digital timer & temperature controller in control box, 16 resister tubes inside of the top plate, 3 years entire machine warranty
