i am actually overloaded with the information here. so if you dont mind, I would like to have your own personal opinions of my concerns. (example, what transfer paper or technique do you do to have a soft feel, or if sublimation can obtain soft feel, etc) Thanks again folks!
Here are some tips on avoiding information overload:
To narrow down the information here, you can simply use the search feature:
http://www.t-shirtforums.com/search.php http://www.t-shirtforums.com/tags/
That will allow you to focus the information on just the specific topic you want to learn about.
If you want to learn about heat transfer versus dye sublimation, then you can
do a forum search for
heat transfer versus dye sublimation. That will bring up several topics where members have shared their personal experiences and tips.
You can also try our
search "tags" feature which finds topics based on a keyword. The "
versus" keyword tag has a lot of comparison threads that will give you answers on different printing methods and heat transfer papers.
If you want to find out about which heat transfer paper people prefer, search for
heat transfer paper or
inkjet transfer paper and you'll find personal experiences and preferences. If you search for ironall, you'll find lots of good threads about how soft it is, how to apply it, where to buy it, etc.
You can also search for
pics to see photos of different printing processes that people have posted to the forums.

1. What is better? heat transfer or sublimation? What are the upside/downside of each?

2. What transfer paper/ink should I purchase for
a) light cotton 100%, 50/50%, etc
b) dark cotton 100%, 50/50%, etc
c) light polyester
d) dark polyester | | | | | |
For an inkjet printer try ironall paper for LIGHT garments (hover over the word ironall for more information or search the forums for pictures and tips).
For dark garments, there really isn't a great inkjet paper in my opinion. You could test out a few and see which one you prefer, but I think for dark colored garments, plastisol transfers are best:

3. How would i obtain soft feel for light/dark cotton? using heat transfer and/or sublimation
Sublimation won't work with 100% cotton or dark shirts, so for soft hand on light shirts you would use ironall. For dark shirts, you can't get a soft feel with an inkjet transfer. You would need to outsource a plastisol transfer.
