Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
I have been using a 15"x15" Mighty Press for about six months now with no problems. Last week for some reason I had to start tweeking the process around to make good T-shirts. This week I cannont make any T-shirts. Not all the ink is transfering to the shirt and I have tried everything, such as adjusting pressure, temperature and dwell time but nothing seems to work. I suspect that my upper platen may have warped, or a problem with the padding. Is this a typical problem? or am I overlooking something.
The first thing I would do is lay a straight edge across the upper platten in several places. This way you can eliminate at least one concern. You might get a digital thermometer to check for even heat on the platten if it is in fact still flat and true.
Terry and Brian, thanks for your help here. Brian, as for your question the ink didn't want to transfer in the center mostly. But I followed Terry's advice and purchased a good straight edge. The platen was definitely warped. I would say about .005" when cold and even more when heated. Most of the warpage was in the center but also a few areas along the edges. I removed the platen and it is now on its way back to the Manufacturer. They claim that this problem is extremely rare. Is that true? Has anyone else ever had this problem? At least this time its under warranty.
Glad you found the problem and it is being taken care of for you. I have not had a problem with my press thus far, I've been pressing for over a year now I think. I always let my press cool down on its own as to not have this problem.
Terry, you said you always let your press cool down on its own to prevent this problem. How does one not let the press cool down on its own? Am I missing something? Please advise.
I have not had a problem with mine and I have had it for a year. However maybe I should check it as you did just to be sure this does not happen to me. I think I just take it for granted that it will always be there for me..
I am pleased to announce that Stahls has replaced the platen on my Mighty Press and it is now working just fine. I am still not sure why my platen had warped in the first place, but I would like to thank Stahls the Manufacturer for for their fast turnaround and excellent customer service.
