Default printing on canvas t-shirts

I tried to print a design on a canvas bag yesterday and the bottom half of the design printed okay but the top half was patchy and a lot of the picture was left on the paper. I had the press on 190 C for light shirts and pressed for 20 seconds.

We print on canvas bags a lot. The most common problem we see is slight darkening of the material. It sounds like you may have had uneven pressure. Sometimes the bag handles or the way it is folded can keep the press from closing evenly. We often use a "pillow" inside the tote to get an evenly raised area to press on.

What kind of transfer paper/printer are you using?

Jim

Yes, it sounds like uneven pressure. Adjust the pressure knob, and also check if some bolts are loose. Extending the dwell time by a few seconds could also help.

the paper was a local product but the dealer assures me it is a high quality product(?)it prints good on the t-shirts i have tried and I have no similar problems wtih them. It is just called picture perfect lightwear transfer paper, I have some darkwear paper too. The trouble is that it is hard to get supplies her in australia as this whole thing is in the very early stages here. I bought the paper when I got the machine from the same dealer. Oh and it was printed on our epson stylus 1160. I will try the padding idea next time, thanks.
and yes mine went a bit darker too i thought i had really burnt it but some of it went away but it still is a tad darker in the pressed area.
Just read somewhere else to use a mousepad also, seems like a good idea too.

Any water left in the bag after pre-press will also cause the transfer to go bad.

I sometimes have to make several pre-press cycles to get the bag dried out before laying down the transfer. (Let it cool a bit between presses)
