Post Printing on color t-shirts question.

We need Help. We are a printing company that has been open for a couple of years know. We have recently started to use a heat-transfer machine to print on t-shirts. We have been doing fine on the light colors but were having trouble with the dark colors. We have the paper that's made for the dark shirts but we must be doing something wrong because when we print on the dark color t-shirts the design comes out almost as dark as the t-shirt. We dont know exactly what we should be doing. If the machine isn't hot enoph or we peel of the paper to fast, wait to long to peel the paper off. The truth is we are having so much trouble. If theres anyone out there who can help us it would very much be appreciated. Thank You.

it sounds like you are NOT using digital opaque transfers. The ones you make with a bubble jet or lazer printers etc.

For these transfers, you need opaque transfers, or printed vinyl type transfers.

...just a wild guess.

One way to tell if you are using an Opaque transfer is: do you print the image with out reversing (mirroring) and peeling the transfer off before pressig it to the shirt?

A few questions also:
• What paper are you using?
• Temp and time when transfering?

What paper are you using? Usually, it's an overcooking problem, when your transfers comes out as dark as the shirt. The trick is to get the right time and temperature (and even presssure) combination. Too much dwell time of a very hot press will make your transfers dark (as the shirt), too little and your transfers might not adhere well to the shirt.

Start with what's written on the pressing instructions of the paper. You also have to use a silicon sheet (usually comes with the paper) and peel cold. You can also try using a teflon sheet together with the silicon sheet.

you have to have tranfer paper for dark shirts I did the same thing before when you print the image out it looks fine on the paper but when u press it the color blends with the shirt because it has nothing blocking the dark color from coming thru u need the tranfers with the white backing for dark shirts
