What could have caused the crackling in this photo?
Please help! I used Quark and to my surprise when I clipped the white away from this photo it left the background blank. It was somewhat of a pleasant surprise. Okay down to business. What did I do wrong. I used Jetflex Premium paper on a Lexmark x3350 printer. I followed the instructions with the JP paper and used the cotton setting on the iron. What could have caused this crackling in the upper right side of this photo? I know the vintage look is sometimes cool but that's not the look I was trying to achieve. Re: What could have caused the crackling in this photo?
when you say 'cotton setting on the iron'.......you're using a household iron?? i suspect that is the case and the problem is that it doesn't get hot enough and there is insufficient even pressure on the transfer for it to work properly. sorry, but to get really good results requires a heat press.
Re: What could have caused the crackling in this photo?
It absolutly needs a heat press. it need time, temp and pressure all regulated to work on the paper. The other thing is did you stretch the fabric upon completting the pressing process? With jetflex and the other name papers theat is how it gets to be soft. I mean like press and stretch. You do not let the transfer cool. I mean like NOW. Lou

Hi Lou
I really vaule your opinions, you seem to be know whats going on in the heat press world.
When you say stretch do you pull hard or lightly.
I'm always afraid that will crack the transfer.
Looking forward to your input Thanks Brenda
Re: What could have caused the crackling in this photo?
OMG! I checked out the prices of heat presses. They seem to cost at least $300 . Please tell me there is an inexpensive alternative . Thank you for your assistance.
Re: What could have caused the crackling in this photo?
$300 is pretty much the cheapest youre probably gonna get it, unless you get it on ebay used or are lucky to find a new one with no reserve price and for some od reason no one else is bidding....
Re: What could have caused the crackling in this photo?
I assume you are using heat transfers for most of your shirt designs. If you are, a good/new heat press is worth an investment (small or big). I was also hesitant to spend $700 for my Hix swingman, but I was so happy I bought it. I made sure I am making the most of it since it's my 1st equipment.
Oh, and also not enough temp and pressure can cause the cracking (based on my xp).
Re: What could have caused the crackling in this photo?
I have to produce good quality. I REALLY love the look I got with the JetFlex premium paper. I agree that it'd be a good investment. I'll have to start searching for a heat press machine. Being that I'm starting out I may purchase a heat press machine from EBay. Any suggestions for a heat press machine?

Yes as soon as I press and while the shirt is hot I immediatly mpull the sides and then the top and bottom. It does not take much to pulling to get the job done. You will not crack the shirt. Remember this is with the iron all type papers. This does not work with paper such as transjet II.

You will be lucky to find a decent used press at a good size for less than $300.
Re: What could have caused the crackling in this photo?
when applying iron on transfers to dark colors, it seems to burn on the tshirt. So if it needs more heat, how do you apply the iron on to dark shirts without burning it on the shirt. My shirts are black
