help-a-noob!

can a heat press denature elastic tape? for example, the 1" elastic tape waistband of a pair of women's boy shorts?

It is possible depending on the amount of heat, time it was under the heat and the material the elastic is made with.

what about standard settings.. 375 w/ ~10 sec dwell?

again it would depend on the material. Have you tried one? If not you should always test when using new materials.

We do this with printing as well. Always best to test an extra garment before running a complete order

i just called a customer rep at imprintables and asked if a heat press would dentature the elastic waistband of a pair of underwear during normal transfer settings and he said no.

so maybe i should rephrase my question to you all... have you personally ever denatured elastic tape with your heat press?

i don't want to invest in a heat transfer system if i can't do everything i need it to. maybe i can pay somebody here to burn their BVDs? kidding, but not really

Can you press it without that part being in the heat press?

I haven't tested this personally. But I have done this by raising the print area with a teflon pillow or mousepad so that the top heat platen isn't in direct contact with the elastic band. This is the same concept used for working around zippers, buttons etc.
