Question Receiving shipment from the US (in Canada)

Hi everybody. Quick newbie question. I was just wondering if it's normal to have a US supplier request a photocopy of your credit card and driver's license before releasing an order to be shipped to Canada?

I wouldn't worry to much if it's a reliable vendor.

They are usually just trying to protect themselves from fraudulent orders by requesting some proof of identity.

If it's some weird domain name like new-vendor-supplies.biz and the website makes you worried, then I would think twice about sending over sensitive info.

Which vendor was it?

that's sort of old school. ... a legitimate complaint from you to cc bank/company in the event you are not happy with the goods under their terms and conditions of sale, the photocopies would serve no purpose.

but, they do need some type of confirmation of who they deal with and supply goods to before they ship.

heck, another good reason for peeps to also offer paypal along with their merchant accounts.

or GooglePay. ...I wish Google would get it up here in Canada soooonnnnn.

It's a well known vendor (recommended here in the forums multiple times over), so, I'm sure it's all good. The paranoid side of me just kicked in and I felt I needed some assurance.

Thanks for the input Rodney and T-Bot!

We do this often on larger new orders, regardless of location. It just gives us an extra measure against fraud and helps us to eliminate unnecessary costs and keep prices down I wouldn't worry too much...
