Unhappy Got my heat press.... and its damaged

Well I got my heat press today. Damaged a little bit in the corners. I attached a picture. When looking at it from under neither. The metal sides are touching the heating element. I dont see any visual cracks. But whos not to say its not cracked on the top of the element, the part I cant see. I looked at the warrenty it says the element has a lifetime warrenty, which i found to be very shocking. I had expected 1 year 2 years at the max.

Little disappointed on the shipping. I didnt take pictures of it in the box, although I should have. Looks to have bounced around some, even though the shipping weight is 110 pounds.

Anyone have this type of problem before when they received theirs damaged from shipping ? Do they replace this. is this common ?

Mine was shipped by UPS, and at a cost of $1295 ( hotronix 16"x20" digital auto open press ) for the machine, I guess I could deal with the dents although I rather not. Would like it replaced, and atleast a new heating element. If its something that is easily changed out.

( Im new to the tshirt side of this but not signs, heres my intro )

Give the Hotronix a call direct 800-727-8520 - talk to Joe or Brian

The shipper should have reommended shipping the 16 x 20 press via truck, although it costs a bit more, the success rate of a press arriving in good condition is much better. After seeing customers with similar problems, it's our policy to only ship via freight on the 16 x 20 presses.

Hotronix should replace it for you but you could file a claim with UPS as an alternative.

Thanks for the quick info and contact names and numbers.
Ill be giving them a call tomorrow morning, I have already filed a claim with UPS just to be safe. I ordered it from coastalbusiness.com as I found the link here on this site somewhers, and they had free shipping, Other places charged 125+ to ship it. So I figured I would go with Coastl save the 125+ dollars and get some vinyl with the savings, and now I have this problem. Go figure. haha Again thanks for the info.

It's come up several times. I don't know what it would take to qualify as common for something like this, but more common than I would have expected. I don't think I've heard of anyone having trouble getting a replacement.

Coastal are not the only one who has free shipping.

When I got my unit from Coastal last march It was damaged but not as bad as your. I called Coastal and talked to kim. I was upset because I had 175 shirts to do. She immediatly put the exchange in and shipped me a new one and told me to use the one I had for my job, which I did. I got the new unit within 3 days and they picked up the one damaged. No hastle at all. This is one reason I do business with this comapny.. and the unit that was shipped came firect from the factory as Coastal was out of units so she had it shipped to me instead of them. The new one came from them.

okay same thing as badalou - kim had called me last friday to ask if i wanted test samples of transfer paper cause i ordered the press but no transfer paper so i called her this morning and told her i got the press and it was damaged and she said no problem that UPS would be out to pick it up sometime today and a new one would be on its way once the damaged one was picked up. i cant believe it was that easy and she laughed. i thought it was going to be hard to return such an item to get a replacement. but nope!! now i just have to run a new electrical line to put the press on its own line. so off to do that now. should have the replacement press by wednesday

You shouldn't have to deal with the dents, but it really looks like cosmetic damage only. If you file a claim with ups, you might end up with a sweet deal on a press. As long as it heats up and the platen isn't damaged it should be ok. The sheet metal around the top can be bent back easily.

yea but the top platen could have been cracked from the top where i couldnt see it.. filed a claim with ups about an hour after i got it and called today and the damaged one is already on its way back and a new one is already on its way.

That thing is thick cast iron. It would take a HECK of a hit to crack it. The outer shell is just sheet metal. Better to be safe though.

I'd love to pick up a scratch'n'dent for cheap. Where's their outlet store?

Yup! Here's the damage to my Digital Mighty Press, I filed a claim with UPS and it's been processing for over a month. The claim is for $100, a new cover costs about $70.

It's obvious it was dropped on a hard surface, you can see the paint and the tear on the box. I'll keep you posted.

Wow, what a pathetic packing job. Peanuts to immobilize a heavy press? Sheesh!
