Default What do you think of this press

I found this one on ebay but since I don't know anything about presses I don't know if this is going to work for doing my shirts. I'm pretty low volume at this point but I'd like something that I can grow with too. What do you think? Heres the link... eBay: GEMSY 15 X 15 Heat Press Transfer machine T shirt NEW (item 300098076915 end time Apr-05-07 18:24:25 PDT)

Here's a tiny bit of info on the press: GEMSY Heat Press

If it were me, I'd wait and save up a bit more to get a better known brand name press.

From the research I've done when looking for a heat press, this is what I've found about the Gemsy.

Uneven heating of the platen.
Unreliable temp settings. (thermostat off by as much as 20 degrees)
Flimsy construction.

Save up for a better heat press. You won't be dissapointed.

For a bit more there are some really great presses with super customer support. Stahls, Hix and Digital Knight are a few that come to mind. Before you buy, ask the question that may help you on Ebay and save yourself the hassles I had.
1. Is this a drop ship Item?
Some sellers dont have the item in their greedy little hands. You win the bid and then They order it from the vendor. This eats up a lot of time depending on the Ebay seller.
2.What is the manufacturer's country of origin?
This is huge. The wiring requirements can and usually are different in other parts of the world. It can also tell you a little about how much hassle youll go through to get service.
3.If it is foreign made, and compatible with your country power source, is there a service center in your area?
Even if its a good machine, things go wrong and with the only service center say in China and you in say Brazil... well its a hassle to say the least.
4. And whats the seller return policy?
Man Ive been hosed not knowing all the ins and outs some Ebayers use.

Keep emailing the seller until you get all the answers or you figure he will be more hassle to deal with than its worth. There are some damn good deals out there. Look at some older machines of reputable manufactures. Many have a crap load of good years of pressing left in them. They may be up for sale just because the seller saw something new and shiny. Hope that helps.

looks pretty cheap to me.....and i dont mean the price. you'll probabbly pay more in ruined shirts than you will if you buy a good model. if you plan on being high volume one day, you should get a quality machine.

i don't know which one that was for, but i purchased a ez press aboout a year ago, and i don't do a large volume of shirts it has been very reliable for the amount i use! i am currently saving for a better machine but in the meantime for somebody gettin into the transfer business i dont see why this would not work! dont get me wrong the better the machine the better the transfer but will work for alot of stuff! and if you ever need to cook some food just flip it over and throw down some eggs and bacon!!!
