Default Really basic questions from a newbie...

Hi, I'm just starting a small t shirt business. I just recieved my first shipment of 150 t shirts in all different sizes and colors. I had planned on screenprinting them but i've been calling around and they're charging $4.50 for short sleeved shirts, $8-9.00 for longsleeved and $400 for a onsie. I was expecting it to be waaayyy cheaper than that! So now I'm looking into iron on transfers. But I know nothing about how to order them, where to order them, how much they cost, how to apply them (does it just require an iron?), and what the quality is like compared to screenprinting. My shirts will have our logo and website address on the back and a phrase on the front. How do I get that to the company that makes the transfers? I looked at first-edition but I'm so clueless it didn't really help me much. Tell me all you know! Thanks so much for the help. Misty

How much were you expecting it to be? Depending on the number of colors in your logo, you may be getting the right price. You could always call other places outside your area.

If you contact the companies that make the transfers, they will tell you how to send them your logo. Different companies have different requirements.

You won't very consistent or quality results with an iron. You really need a heat press to apply the custom transfers.

5 Tips: How to select which heat press to buy?

how much they cost
If you contact the custom transfer companies, they will be able to give you quotes. Some of them have the pricing posted on their websites.

A plastisol heat transfer, if done correctly (printed correctly and pressed correctly) will have the same quality as screen printing directly on the shirt.

what is a plastisol (silk screen printed) heat transfer: a definition

It's a one color for the screenprinting. I guess I thought it would be in the 2-4 dollar range at the most. Guess I was wrong! How much is a basic heat press? Thanks again!

Read the link I posted about about the 5 tips on which heat press to buy and you'll find links to prices and vendors.

What color ink on what color garments? If it's a one color on white t-shirts (front and back) for 150 shirts, it should be about $2-$4. Are you sure the quotes they gave didn't also include the garments? Not sure why the pricing would change if you had long sleeves or onesies (since you said you're providing the garments).

Raw Talent Inc is offering special discounts on contract screen printing to forum members. You may want to give them a call to see how their pricing compares.

It is - I agree with Rodney, it sounds like the prices you're quoting include the garments.
