Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
We just got a Oki Cn5500 and plan on getting the duracotton.
What also is a good laser heat transfer paper people have had good results with (light and dark).

Are you looking for other laser transfer papers to try *besides* the duracotton papers?
We use American Eagle Transfer paper. Have used this in a QMS 330 with success.
Do you plan to use the Oki Cn5500 for color laser transfers and film positives. We are looking for a new color laser that will do color transfers and film positives on vellum.
Dave have you used the CPM 6.4 paper at all for transer to tiles etc? I am awaiting some samples and besides the textile transfer which you say is good was just wondering about the ceramic transfer. Thanks.
Would suggest Imageclip. It is two step self weeding papers. If you do not like polymer window/box try Imageclip. It has been proven to work with several Oki color laser printer models by members. I use OKI C5200ne which is a discontinued model.

Yes, I have used the CPM paper, not to any extent though, only tried it on mugs, and to be honest had varied results, sometimes all the image would transfer, sometimes not. Not overly impressed. Sorry I can't comment on it with tiles as it's something I've never tried.
Thanks Dave. Wish you had better results. I keep hearing about how good OEM laser is with all the special transfer papers but looks like not as stable to the hard surfaces as dye sub is. Thanks again.
Hello
I have been using the versatranz paper with my oki c5500. Done a few mugs and several tiles. Works well.
The paper transfers well on the tiles.
The few mugs we did had small pics but transfered very good. Used a cactus wrap.
For the tiles we got some doming resin.
I have only domed one tile but we liked it.
If you go to the dssi forums and find Mick and give him a PM/email he can send some samples done with the paper.
I got some JBL hardgood sample paper and wasn't imipressed with it on the tiles.
I also have the OKI 5500. I just did a large order of T's using Duracotton, and was extremely pleased with the results. It does leave a slight polyester window residue on the shirt, but it wasn't unsightly.
And I minimized this somewhat by ironing each shirt. Yes, it takes time, but ironing the T minimizes the look of the polyester window and also removes to a large extent the square pressing impression left by the heat press - in my case, a 15X15 square.
I ran the shirts through the wash with hot water and high dryer heat to see the affect of washing. The polyester window was gone, and the image looked as though it had just been printed. I think this paper is a keeper.
Quick question for you Larry,
What is the effect of ironing on the DC shirts? I would love to have these look a tad nicer if possible, but without actually washing them. You just iron right over the transfer? What temp? Boy, can't believe I now own 3 heat presses and I am thinking of digging out my old iron...hah! I love how this paper comes out after the wash, very nice results on the right colors of course (for me white, natural and pink)
I have been using DC and sell/ship them as is, but I wouldn't mind lessening the initial "home transfer" look you have with this paper. On my own shirts I DCed and washed, the poly window disappears on the very light colors, but rears its head on light blue, and yellow haze or darker.
I am not sure it is necessary to do any extra ironing or washing as every customer who has bought my T's online report that they love the product. Who knows, perhaps we are just too picky?
I also have been very happy with ImageClip, which I just got last week and had fun experimenting with over the weekend. It works great on dark shirts with solid dark colors.
I use an oki 5800, Geo Knight DK20, Geo Knight JP12 (plenty of pressure for both DC and JPSS) and Chinese no brand hat press, all with great results...

I take them off the heat press and iron them with a traditional iron and ironing board. It has no effect on the shirt from a negative standpoint. It looks much nicer for the customer. The image isn't degraded in any way when doing this. I don't wash between pressing and ironing; I can straight to ironing from pressing. I use the hottest setting my iron can generate. The shirts I washed were done in this manner, and image came out great after washing. So it doesn't appear to affect the shirt negatively in any way. And it sure looks more impressive when the customer gets the shirt.
