I think usually, they use stickers produced by a Roland versacamm print/cut machine and laminated. You can also use heat transfer on woods and other hard materials using special transfer papers. Here's a sample video on heat pressing on wood: http://www.iccink.com/forever/videos/1/38.wmv

I just read an article in a Digital Graphics magazine Digital Graphics Magazine: The Magazine for the Wide-format Digital Printing Industry about a guy you makes surf boards and such and developed his own heat press to press designs. - DAMCO HOME PAGE

Yes, graphics on a skateboard are applied using heat and pressure. No, I dont think a standard heatpress can do it. Its a Plastisol style screened design process. Gotta love "How it's made." on Dicovery channel. If you could come up with a roller press that applied heat at the same time, youre good to go. The rollers would have to flex to form to the varied way a deck changes. And then youd need a curing rack.

I know we can do like wraps with our versacamm that can cover skate boards.. they are then laminated.. i do thin that the method Hammered talks about is much more long lasting tho.. and prolly the best way to go.. I think the vinyl from the roland the laminate would get scratch or could get gouged.

Hot rollers on suspension strings. Not a readily avaliable bit of kit.

You can check eBay and craigslist for used presses. Also some come up for sale every now and then in our classifieds.
