Default Help. Another Sign Guy doing shirts...

Ok SO heres the deal, I am Sign Guy. I do not clain to be a T-shirt guy. However a friend of mine decided to go off and sell t-shirts to try to keep me busy. (Not like I wasn't busy enough). So that being said, I am sitting here with several orders to be done. Some on white shirts, some on grey and a few on black. I have a Mutoh 6 color printer and graphtec plotter. My press will be here next week. the questions I have and am seeking some advice on are.

1. What is the best paper to print on that I can get results on both dark and light garments.

2. How can I make these so they don't look like an old school transfer and more like a screened product.

Any help is much appreciated.

Kevin

There is no inkjet paper for both light and dark garments. You'll need to get a separate paper for each one. Iron All/JetFlex is a popular choice for light garments, for dark garments you might try this thread:

What's the best type of opaque Heat Transfer Paper, in your opinion?

Instead of using inkjet transfers, you can order custom-made plastisol transfers. The end result will be very similar to a traditional screenprint.

what is a plastisol (silk screen printed) heat transfer: a definition

Where do you buy YOUR custom plastisol transfers? - a list of vendors!

If the designs are fairly simple and less than 3 colors, you could also get some t-shirt vinyl and use your plotter to cut out the designs. See these threads for more info:

Making my first custom t-shirt with cut vinyl, a vinyl cutter and a heat press

A little help with some of the basics? Vinyl Transfer?

Kevin,
I'm assuming that your Mutoh is either a solvent or ecosolvent printer. Keep in mind that most of the recommendations you'll receive here are based on printers using pigment inks. Those transfer papers may not work in a solvent or ecosolvent printer. I do know that Beacon graphis carries heat transfer vinyl for solvent printers as well as Thermoflex Plus and several other "cut it mirror image, weed it and heat press it" materials. Good luck.
