Unhappy Brand New Heat Press Woes!!!

I have a question for all of you in the heat transfer business. I just bought the Hix 16 X 20 Swingman 20D, and when I swing It into position to press, the heat palete is at least 3/8ths of an inch away from being completely aligned up with the base. It also has about the same amount of play in it.

I read that when using any heat press the design should be 1"inch smaller than the heating pad, so I'm basically asking forum members, If I should send it back, or should I overlook It because all presses aren't exactly aligned, or should I try tapping the heating pad with a rubber mallet to line It up with the base?

I'm not really sure about what I should do. I contacted Hix, and they wrote back:

"it probably just got bumped in shipping. You might be able to look under the lower platen and there will be a ratcheting clamp, loosen it up and try to line it up that way. If that doesn’t give you enough adjustment, you can grab both sides of the upper head and feel to see how tight/ loose it is. If it does have a little bit of play, you can adjust it to the side to line it up. If you cannot get it lined up this way then it may be damaged and you should definitely call me and we will try to narrow down the possibilities."
Thanks,

I would try what they said . I think you made a great choice on the brand , size , and type. I think if you follow their instructions you will be fine. If you can't make it right call them and pressure them to pay for shipping it back. If you wanted you could contact the shipper and open a claim and get another one that way too. Good luck and happy pressing. ... JB

I would call the company and tell them you received your press and it was broken. Then tell them you want to have it replaced. Tell them if it left them in working order that it must have been damaged in shipping and ask them to help you open a claim. .. Best of luck ... JB
