How many out there own the Hix Swingman 15? I'm kinda favoring this one. Seems like a good press. I'd just like some feed back from an owner of one. Does the temp match the knob setting? Any issues at all? How long have you owned it? How often is it used?
I've had my Swingman 15 for about 18 months and love it. Temp seems to run about right although I've never had a lot of luck at really getting a handle on true temp. Seems like all presses vary in temp across the platen. If anything, it may run a little cooler than knob says. It has been used practically every day and the only thing I've had to do was replace the thermostat about a month ago.
I also like it because it is reasonably light weight, making it more portable than a lot of presses.
So far I've only used it for testing shirts. It has been used for hard items (sublimation). I will be getting into shirts with it in the next couple of weeks I hope. I like it better than a clamshell but you might want to try the action of both before you buy since a lot of people prefer the clamshell.
I don't own a Hix but when I was looking to buy a heat press I found a lot of satisfied Hix customers. From what I have read, the size and model are all you have to be concerned about. The company and their products appear to be top notch all of the way. I can't remember ever seeing a complaint about them anywhere. I am sure there are some but, I never saw them.
Just so you know, I bought a brand with just as many enthusiastic customers due to price and terms. Also, I think the swing-away style press is the way to go. 8-)
I don't want to take any business away from Hix but, we bought a Hotronix 16" x 20" from Stahl's along with a cap press. It was a close race between the two.
The process of evaluating equipment at this company is quite extensive since we are in a manufacturing environment. While a heat process is not really considered capital equipment with us, it went through the same process since we don't like to buy junk that has to be replaced after a few years of service. Either press would have been satisfactory. I don't remember what tipped the scales towards the Hortronix.
