Default Which transfer material

One of our mimaki techs flew in this past week to help setup our new printer and was telling me about a type of heat transfer material that doesnt have much of a texture after its heated on. He said he was going to email me the information when he got back but never did. Cant get him to respond to my emails or answer when I call. I dont know much about the material, never tried any of it. I have a 68" mimaki cutter and several wideformat printers in the office that should print fine. Solvent, pigmented, or uv. Doesnt matter which. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. I dont want to waste the money on a roll of it if its not what im looking for.

A warm Welcome to you Brad. There's a discussion here about the Duracotton, and the PhotoTrans Image Clip (for Laser printers). Sound like they're what you're looking for.

Hey byron, I realize I just threw this in the wrong section. I have an epson 9600 and a 9800 or a mimaki jv3 250 6 color solvent. Im really looking for roll material not leaf. I can use a laser but i'd prefer not to. Thank you for your hasty response. Ive been digging all over the site I keep hearing about Iron all is the fav around here. I'd prefer not cracking but im looking for something that doesnt stick off of the clothing. I cant find anything on that topic.

Hi Brad, can you explain a bit more by what you mean by "stick off" of the clothing?

If laser is better then that is the way ill go, im just looking for some guidance. I mainly do wide format printing, banners signs etc etc. I havent tried to do this yet. I dont have a heat press yet but ill jump that hurdle when I get to it.

I really want it to feel as close to.. say waterbased screen printing. where it doesnt have too much of a texture. I dont know if its going to be possible, I dont have access to any screen printing equipment and im not really to hop into that. I want to stick with what I know for now.

Hey Brad, I think I know the right product for you. Have you ever heard of the "solvent-dark" transfer paper (for solvent inks)? I think, at the moment. only Forever transfers from Germany makes them. They have a disributor in the US, (ICC inks????), and Conde also gets some sublimation products from them. With this product, you don't have to buy the laser. They're pretty advanced (the products), I think.

Thanks byron, no i havent heard about them. This is my first time using a solvent printer. We've only had it for 2 weeks. Currently only doing wallpaper and vehicle wraps. Do you have any experience with it? We have laser printers as well, if thats what it takes thats what i'll go with. I just dont want to buy a roll of something that isnt what im looking for.

I'm assuming you want to do transfers on shirts. If you already have the lasers, you could read the discussions about the Duracotton, and the Photo-Trans Image Clip paper by Neenah, to get the "not much texture after its heated on" result. As for the solvent transfers, I'm expecting to receive some materials and I will test them at a friends' solvent printer. They also have this "subli-dark" paper wherein you could use them for dark and cotton materials. I hope to test them as well.
