Re: Thermostat replacement A water heater thermostat isn't a great process temperature controller. Ideally, you should use a PID loop controller to keep the temperature within a tight deadband.
To regulate precisely, you'd purchase an inexpensive temperature controller (Grainger sells several, Omni has a line, etc.) You'll need to install a temp sensor for it to work properly. Most work off a cheap type J thermocouple.
If you're worried about installing it properly, any commercial electrician should be able to hook it up for you in just a few minutes.
If you want to stay with your current setup, make sure that the temperature-sensing metal portion of the water heater thermostat is in tight contact with the metal tank. A little air gap can make a huge difference. |
