*If* I was to switch from dye sub ink to either Claria or another other inkjet dye or pigment ink, I most certainly would flush the printer. Without a doubt. Dye sub ink is a different animal altogther.

However i use the Epson inks that came with it for some transfers for cotton. I have been told that the standard Epson inks are fine for the transfers.... | | | | | |
Yeah, that was an interesting discovery. Quite a lot of folks here were having success with inkjet transfer papers and Claria and claria compatible inks. Jetpro Sofstretch (
JPSS) was the main paper, but some folks use Claria type ink with dark papers. Not me, though, but I also haven't ventured out there to try that.
I don't really like the dark papers so I don't really use them anymore, that's the reason why.
The lights are fine and I use
JPSS paper and with that paper, I have used Pigment ink, Claria ink and Canon regular photographic dye ink.
Claria is a hybrid ink. It is a water resistant dye, making it different from regular photographic dye ink (photographers/photographs are who and what these printers are designed for and around.)
The Claria is supposed to be a cross between pigment and dye, to give the photogs the water resistance of the pigment and the smoothness of the dye.
It works for alot of us, too!!
Pigment is the "go to" ink for heat transfers. Durabrite is the pigment to watch out for as it gives alot of troubles with color shifting under the heat of the press. Otherwise, pigment will work with the most varied amount papers... not that there are tons of papers, there mostly are a few papers, with a ton of different names attached to them!! LOL.
Claria and the compatibles are working for alot of folks. Not all, but to be fair, that pigment Durabrite doesn't work for "all" either!
You have a 1400, lucky you that you can try sample papers and press and wash them to see how they work out with your paper and blank shirt choices.
The blank will make a difference in your product as well!
Then there is regular photographic dye ink. Looks beautiful when pressed, fades when washed... EXCept for when using
JPSS paper.
I've used regular dye ink with
JPSS paper and after quite a few warm water washes, I decided to add bleach when I saw no fade, and still saw no fade. Got up around 11 or 12 washes and called it a day.
It wasn't fading.
That is a credit to the paper
JPSS, because I have used other papers that have faded, even with pigment ink.
It's all in your product combination!! And you should test your choices together, on the shirt, and thru the washer, and dryer before you make your bulk purchases.
Just a word of wisdom after doing many tests and seeing "what" comes out of the washer.

Who's ink should i use? | | | | | |
There are a few suppliers mentioned around here. I haven't bought from them, but there is certainly user feedback if you do a search for the company name on the forum.
inkjetcarts.us
inkjetfly.com
shopdyesub.com
...and there are others as well.
If you search the forum for "1400 ink" you'll likely return the bulk of the threads regarding your printer and ink.
You can also google for more suppliers. Use your printer model and generic ink or compatible ink.
I am going to go to inkjetcart.us after what I've read here and how happy people have been. Yes, true, there's a bad apple here and there, but to me, for the product happiness people share and the main majority of happy customers they have... I'm good with it.
Who you choose will be up to you in the end, and who you are comfortable with. They should be able to help you with installation, flushing the printer - if that's what you want and need to do - make sure they will be there for you, as installation of even the refill carts can be tricky.
Best wishes, and I'm sure Mr. David will be a long at some point to chime in... as your question was to him. I just was cruising by, so I dropped some info for you as well.
