Im going to start a t shirt manufacturing business, i have £5000, the t shirts will have multi coloured graffiti designs across the chest area and this is what i have so far decided on buying to accomplish the task:

Apple iMac 21.5-inch 949.00
Wacom Intuos4 A4 399.99
Adobe Photoshop 599.99
Autodesk Sketchbook Pro 99.99

I don't know anything about making t shirts and i have chosen these items based on research. If you have equipment suggestions or advice please comment, or if you think you have useful info please comment. Thanking you in advance E.

Hi E, have you already looked into the quality of inkjet heat transfers to see if they match the quality of what you'd like to sell to your customers?

Another question might be: Do you want to be a "t-shirt printer" or a "designer and seller"?

If you don't really *want* to get into the printing side, you don't have to. You could save a lot of equipment investment by outsourcing the printing to a company that already has the equipment and just focus on the designing and marketing aspects to get your t-shirts sold.

If you definitely do want to get into the printing side, then I would try to get samples of inkjet transfer printed t-shirts to see if you like the quality before you start your investment.

There may be other options (like screen printing, outsourcing plastisol transfers, etc)

Screen Printing is not really an option because of space, budget limitations and i think that outsourcing would put limitations on design complexity due to the fact that some printers charge per colour and how detailed a design is.

The business is actually a two man operation my business partner is the designer and i would be the one in charge of printing.

I will Definitely sample inkjet transfer printed t shirts before i go and plough my money into them. Thankyou
