hello im working on a 6 color design (cartoon) in illustrator, and am planing to use halftones to bring our certain shades in the image. i was plaining on doing this by using gradient effects.

my question is, would it make more sense to present the image to the printer still in a gradient form (on seperate layer), and allow him to bring out the gradient when printing the transparency, or would I have better control over the appearance by incorporating the halftones in the design before i give it to him.

If you do the halftone incoroporation yourself you'll have better results, however you're better off opening the illustrator file in photoshop and producing those halftones and the separation. Illustrator sometimes creates banding with gradients depending on rip software. By doing it in photoshop and converting your images to bitmap you can print it out on any inkjet or laser printer.
