If I have a concept for a tshirt that no other tshirt company has offered...Can a copywright protect other tshirt companies from producing my concept on their shirts?

You must mean, "Can a copyright prevent other T-shirt companies from producing my concept on their shirts?"

Realistically, no, judging by all the knock-offs ever so present in the marketplace. It will give you the legal means to pursue litigation but I'm no lawyer. I'm sure somebody on this forum would know better than I.

When you say concept do you mean an idea or an actual physical expression of that idea?

As James mentioned, there is a difference between "prevention" and "protection." There is no real way to prevent anyone from knocking off your shirts. The only protection is registering your copyright or trademark and then suing anyone who infringes on your registration. But even then, there is a lot of gray area. For instance, copyright registration only protects your specific design. Someone can take the same idea, design it differently, and you would not have any legal recourse.

... and most of the time, it's totally not worth the time, effort and expense of going after infringers. Is that even a word?

By the way I wrote exactly what u were trying to correct me on...and its a design that others would have access to, but nobody has done it. Just wondering if there is a way to protect it...
