Default How would you deal with the trapping on this design?

I tried a few different ways, and attempted to explain the concept of trapping the best I could to my students (I teach highschool) but I haven't seen a real solid way of going about trapping in Illustrator. I have the feeling that there may not be a way that works straightforward, or consistently with all designs. Some say use overprinting strokes, others say offset path. What would you do?

Adding a 1px stroke to the black would work fine.

Is this design separated on layers in illy? If so, easy.

I would first print off the purple screen as is. Then I would select the white and purple with the pathfinder tool, change this shape to spot white and add a 1 pt stroke in red (shirt color) to create your choked underbase. Finally I would add a 1 pt stroke to the black to trap, and make sure all black objects are on the layer above the underbase.

I'd do the black as an overprint.
