Default need help desiging & printing T-shirts

Good Day All

Im new to this forum and it seems like you guys know alot thats going on in the printing industry.

I've recently bought a bundle which includes:
  1. Geoknight A3 Heat press
  2. Epson A3 Inkjet Printer (6 color ink) with sublimation ink.
Im fairly good at designing art, and want to produce this on t-shirts. I got a couple of questions to ask though.

  • I use photoshop & paint shop Pro to do my designs, is there a specific mode/layout it must be in to print on the transfer paper?
  • will i be able to print white on a color/black tshirt ?
Thank you in advanced.
Regards
Fiekyville

You have to have Opaque Transfer Paper which is made for dark shirts in order for your print to go in colors like black, brown, red, green and all dark shirts. These transfers do not have to be printed in a mirror. They need to be printed just as they are. The opaque transfers are a white patch that you peel then lay on your t-shirt and cover with a Teflon Cover Sheet to protect your press and cover your transfer this is very important and a must have for pressing dark prints. I cut my design out before I peel and press it unless the print is a full print that takes up the whole transfer.

When you print on a light transfer paper you will have to go to print setup and change your output to mirror that way it will print on the transfer backwards also make sure you select the right size print be it letter 8.5X11 or tabloid 11X17 and the page layout portrait or landscape that is also very important. Also if using a light gray, yellow, pink or any other light shirt what ever color the shirt is will be the color of anything you have that's white in your design. So if you want your design to stay just like it is and need to print it on a light shirt other than white use and opaque transfer instead of a light transfer.

Here a video showing you how to do it.

Thanks alot BodyRoc

as ive said, im new to the business and wants to learn more & more... i have a passion for desiging art and people often ask me to put in on a shirt.

I use Photoshop & Painshop Pro to do my designs.
Will i be able to print white on a color/dark shirt with the equipmenti have or do I have to get a printer that can print white. (im not sure if my Epson can print white).

Ps: Can someone tell me what to look out (do's and don'ts) when doing my art in photoshop ?

Please advice

You do not need to get a printer that will print white as long as your using opaque transfer sheets for your dark shirts anything that's white in your design will not get printed because it is on a white patch so the white is already there. White will not need to be printed at all but will show up on your design as it should. If your design is all white I suggest you put a outline around the print and cut it out using the outline as a guide if putting print on a black I would use a black outline.

aaah, that make sense, so the white is already on the opaque paper/transfer.
say for example i want to print white wording on a black shirt using opaque paper, the best way will be if i put a thin black outline around the wording, then print it out, then heat press ???

Have you done this before ?

Other question is, if i save my art-work in PNG format (with a transparent background), and want to press the design on a black shirt, do i still use opaque transfers ?

Thank you so so much
You've been a great help.

You can click the video and it will play right here on the forums. And yes I print white letters and designs about 50 times a day I cut out the print then put it on the shirt when I use opaque transfers.
The only way your print will show up on a dark shirt is with an opaque transfer even if your background has been removed before the design is printed. I have been doing this for a few years now and I learned most of it by making mistakes. I have used light transfer on bright colors when I was only putting a black design on the bright shirt. Otherwise I only use opaque transfers for all colors but white t-shirts.

Here's another video that will help you out. It's from coastal business supplies and get 80% of my transfer supplies from them.
