Removing white square from Photoshop image after importing to Corel
I have a couple of questions about Corel. I imported a clip art horse that's all black from Photoshop into Corel. I wanted to put an oval around the horse and then fill it with a color. How do I get rid of the white square surrounding it?
I saved it as a jpeg and it had a transparent background in photoshop. Also, is it considered a bitmap? When I go to Bitmaps in Corel the 'Convert to Bitmap' is grayed out. This is probably not hard but I can't figure it out.
Thanks.

Yes, importing a jpg into Corel will keep it a bitmap (jpg).
Jpg does not support transparency. You can use Corel to trace the image, thereby turning it into a vector image. At that point you can select and delete the background.
Or you can try importing your native photoshop transparent file directly into Corel, or export your photoshop image into another file format that supports transparency like a .png.

I didn't have it selected right to get the Convert to Bitmap. After I traced it and then 'ungrouped all' it worked. Thank you so much. I have been working on that for a couple of days. This is a great forum.

It's grayed out because it is already a bitmap. You are not converting it into a bitmap. You are turning a bitmap into a vector.
Use your Corel help file and following the instructions for Tracing. Depending on the details of your file, there are settings within Trace to fine tune the output.

another way to get rid of the white box around a jpeg image:
-open the jpeg in corel photopaint.
-use the magic wand mask tool & click in the white space outside the image to put a mask around your image.
-then under the mask tab on top click invert to invert the mask.
-then save the file as a photopaint file (cpt)
-then import the file into Coreldraw and the white box will be gone.
you can then put colored backgrounds behind it with no white box there.
This comes in handy sometimes when the jpeg image is complicated, low quality or just can't be vector traced any good.
Try it.
